x1300 is not what you want for gaming, get something better, at least the x1600 or the x1800. The x1300 is the value line ATi card. Look at their website for more information on higher end cards.
Actually the entire system sucks. Don't buy a Pentium D 805, get something with an 800Mhz bus, I think the 820 or 830 would have this. Or go with a single core chip like the 631. The 631 would be a much better choice for gaming than the 805, and the pricing should be similar. I would probably go with a higher 6xx series before I would go with anything in the 8xx series due to the cache size, and the fact that they are 95nm parts so they run cooler. Look at the intel website for details on each of the cores. I don't know what motherboard you have there, but I think you will get the most value in the 945 line. Probably something with the 945P would work for you. I'm sure asus has a mainboard with this chipset but I'm not going to look it up for you. The 955, 965, or 975 would be fine also, but will cost quite a bit more. I would not even consider a mainboard that did not have an intel chipset in it. I don't know how pricing is, but I would go with something like this: Pentium D 920-960 or Pentium 4 631-661 In the 6 series the 3rd digit needs to be a 1 to get a 65nm part, the 0 are older, the 2 are 90nm parts with VIIV, whatever that is. Some motherboard with a 945P, 955x, P965, or 975x chipset 1GB of ram is fine, make sure it is DDR2 667 in 2 512MB sticks so you can upgrade to 2GB easily, or spring for 2GB now, I would not run less than 1GB in anything anymore. Ati x1800 or better video, or the equivalent part from Nvidia. The rest of it doesn't matter, whatever hard drive and accessories fit your needs. |

I went down and talked to my man Tony (before I read your post) At no additional cost he will swap the video card to a GeForce 7300 256mb and the motherboard to an AMD 3200+ or a +3500 for about $75 USD more. The higher single processor intel chips seem to add quite a bit of cost. He also said upgrading to the +3500 from the +3200 wouldn't be big difference for gaming. What does 2+2 say? |
