If your assumption is that the swinger landed his blow squarely on your head there is no doubt it would kill. The only chance of survival is if the swinger somehow grazes you, hits the ear or whatever (which is fairly possible given the poor condition of the average human).

Yeah, I think that's probably the correct way to look at this. If you tried to recreate this scenario, there's a very good chance the person would survive simply because the swinger probably wouldn't get a perfect hit. But under the assumption that he did get a perfect hit, death is nearly certain.

Anyone who has ever played Little League = DEATH
Someone who has never played Little League = Still probably DEATH, but maybe BRAIN DAMAGE, or severe CONCUSSION

I've been hit in the front of the head 7 times with a baseball bat.

4 Deaths
2 Lumps
1 Actually turned out to be a 2x2

Go figure.

This happened when we were kids playing pickup ball when we were 12 yrs old. Batter pops the ball straight up into the air, and the catcher ran out front, whipped off his mask and camped under it. The batter focusing only on the ball in the air then took a mighty swing at the ball and tries to hit it for the second time. Dan took in right in the forehead. Busted the skin and got stitches, but was conscious through the whole thing. He was a train wreck though that whole evening. But they were just kids..... A grown man with the added strength and velocity that could be generated would kill him most of the time, and its vegetation for everybody else.

You guys are all vastly overestimating the amount of damage a baseball bat could do, also underestimating how hard a persons forehead is. People survive much worse head trauma all the time. FWIW I believe a blow to the top of the head would be much more likely to result in serious injury but probably still not fatal. For those saying you would bleed to death, how is that even possible? There are no arteries even close to your forehead.

well everyone could go buy a coconut and a bat, then hit the coconut, if it cracks well you would have cracked the guys skull

You get that from CSI or what?

[/ QUOTE ]

I believe it was a martial arts show on Discovery where they were breaking stuff, and they brought it up

I'm not positive on this, but I remember hearing that with a wood bat if you swing it 50mph you will get leathal(right away) result, and that MLB players swing in the 75ish mph range

not sure how fast the aluminum bat needs to go, but one thing I think ppl are overlooking, is its much tougher to hit something on the ground with force than something at head-level

meh. If he wants to kill me, he'd best hit me in the chest. Hitting me in the head will only break the bat.

I'm pretty sure Tiger with a bat would [censored] you up regardless of where your head was positioned. Remember the Nike video?
