Unless you have kids, or plan on frequently driving through water puddles on a romantic cloudy day, don't get a four door car. [/ QUOTE ] This is a ridiculous statement. |

I think the new TL is hideous, but I'm sure the interior/features/performance are of very high quality. I would hesitate to get the Lexus because it's the first year of the new model, and I'd bet a lot of those gadgets have bugs they haven't ironed out yet. So, if you can put up with the ridiculous groove running down the sides, go TL.

This depends on what you're looking for in your car. Both of these brands are extremely reliable and have high resale values.
I've driven both of these cars, they each have their strengths and one car is not definitely better than the other. The TL is much, much sportier. The ES is geared far more for luxury. The TL feels like a very solid car with tight steering and a has a bit of a harder edge to it (stiffer suspension, harder seats, not as soft of leather throughout, etc) - however it's still definitely comfortable. The ES is a very quiet place that is a cushion between you and the outside world. It's very smooth and everything is softer (shifts more for smoothness instead of performance, soft ride, more amenities, lighter steering, overall more refined). Basically the TL is a "sport sedan" with some luxury comforts (competing with the likes of BMW and Audi), and the ES is a medium range luxury car that doesn't attempt to compete with the likes of BMW, but aims more at Cadillac and Mercedes. Most of the cars in Acura & Lexus's lineup fall into these same categories of sporty vs. luxury. Drive both cars, the difference is very apparent. Totally up to you on which type of car you prefer. For me I'd probably have the Acura - I'm much more of a sports car kind of guy. However the Lexus is a nicer place to be for long trips, stuck in traffic, ferrying around business people, and it's easier to drive. I definitely understand the appeal of both. |

I would recommend TL if you're planning to get the navigation package... Honda/Acura seems to do this much better than anyone else.
