There's that toll road (can't remember) that goes over the mountains and comes out like on the 91 or something, kind over by Riverside.

[/ QUOTE ]

yeah, there's never any traffic on the 91

[/ QUOTE ]

Oh, and for those that don't live here, he's being sarcastic. The 91 is absolutely one of the worst freeways in all of Southern California.

I was wondering about that. Thanks.

You'll be fine going to Hawaiian gardens, Commerce, Bike, Hustler. Just dont leave between 5-7 and avoid I-5 no matter the time.

405N - 605N there's HG. Another 10 minutes up to 5N and there's commerce.

I live in Mission Viejo, Lake Forest's neighboring city. Lake Elsinore will take you an hour and a half to get to, if traffic is good. It's close on a map, but there are so few quick ways to get there with traffic and the hills that separate it from OC.

I'd recommend Ocean's 11, it's 35 miles south and easy to get to. It's a nice place that is almost entirely poker only, with somewhere between 40 and 50 tables. Commerce and The Bike are just a couple miles farther in the opposite direction, but traffic always blows going into LA.

I don't know how the games are at any of the card rooms on weekdays but the quoted post is spot on regarding ease to get to.

O-11 is a nice card room. Big, lots of table selection on weekends. Straight shot down I-5(south) to get there. You'll hit some traffic no matter when you go - just avoid 4-7pm if at all possible. Drive home after 10pm will be a breeze.

Commerce is a site to behold and I can't imagine that you'd have trouble finding a thoroughly beatable game even on a weeknight ... Not sure what you have planned, but if you can get out of Lake Forest around noon-2pm you should be able to avoid some of the traffic going into LA (though its always somewhat bad). Cruise up to LA, see some other sights and then head over to commerce and play for a few hours before driving home.

Best of luck and post a trip report!

If you haven't been to commerce, it's worth going to. Oceans 11 will likely have less traffic. Pechanga will be too far.

What poker rooms are nearby? I will be visiting late January and would like to play one or two evenings. Probably a Monday or Tuesday. Any tournament or game info would be helpful as well.

I may be a little late to this thread, but if you're still interested heres a little more info.

I live in Irvine which is right next to Lake forrest. I can't speak for any of the LA casinos but i can tell you a lot about the local indian casinos. You didn't say what limits you were looking for so i'll just go over them off the top of my head.

lake elisnore casino - i actually checked this place out once. on the outside it doesn't look like a casino at all. looks more like a mom and pop diner deal. its about 50 miles, traffic isn't too bad at all but this place isn't worth going to. its a small poker room with about 20 tables. they have 3/6, 4/8, and 6/12. the 6/12 wasn't running when i was there. the 3/6 and 4/8 were monster loose. side note: they were spreading these games played on these small round tables, looked like some sort of draw game, don't know what the hell it was.

pechanga - about 70 miles. this place is pretty grand, resembles a vegas casino. the card room is huge. like 50-60 tables. big screen projectors and flat screen tvs all over the walls. they have 8/16 and 20/40. very good games.

morongo - don't even bother, the place is garbage

san manual - this casino is pretty nice also. their card room is great. their floor told me they have 30 tables but it seemed much bigger then that. they spread 6/12, 9/18, and 15/30. the 6/12 was probably the most loose passive game i've have ever played. the 9/18 was a great game also. and from what i could tell, the 15/30 was wild. this place uses a weird felt for their tables though. its like rubberly and the cards don't slide well on it.

oceans 11 - i have saved the best for last. its about 45 miles from irvine, so like only 40 miles from lake forrest. this place is the dank. 50-60 tables. any limit you want from 1/2 up to 40/80 with overs. all you can eat baby. you can walk in any time, any day of the week and get a seat in a 8/16, 20/40, or 40/80 game. the 8/16 their is my fishing pond. good stuff.

if anyone has questions, just ask.
