Bottum Set Three Handed
2/4 PLO three handed. We all have around $600. Button folds and small blind raises to $14. He is pretty aggressive and doesn't have the highest standards in the world. I'm in the big blind with As 3s 3d Kc and call.
Flop comes J 6 3 suits irrelevant. He bets the pot and I call. Turn brings a Ten. He checks and I bet the pot. He checkraises the maximum. What's my play? Comments appreciated. Bruce |

Re: Bottum Set Three Handed
This isn't much of a response, more of a 'tell me if this thinking is right' type effort.
I'd foldk because I think realistically a sound opponent doesnt check raise here without a set or big wrap, right? Then agfain it's 2/4 and people are idiots. Also can you explain the not-raise on the flop? |

Re: Bottum Set Three Handed
There is now no flush draw on the board? And you have about 300 behind if you call? I think this is a close fold, maybe the gutshot makes it a call. But it would help to know a little more about the player.

Re: Bottum Set Three Handed
I try to balance my strategy when playing shorthanded. Sometimes I'll raise the flop with a big hand and sometimes I'll wait until the turn. This was a relatively drawless flop so I didn't think there were any compelling reasons to get overly aggressive on the flop.
I'm not sure how best to describe my opponent. I have only played with him for perhaps an hour, but I got the impression that he normally plays higher and he was playing smaller because he was either running bad and/or the games are easier. Aside from being aggressive there's not much else I can say about him. He certainly isn't an idiot. Bruce |

[/ QUOTE ] It's not quite that simple because a) if he is very aggressive he may have 2 pair J6 or JT, or even a lower 2 pair if he has a straight draw to go with it. b) we are actually a very big favourite over even a nice wrap like AKQJ, because there is only one card to come and we have 2 blockers and a Q only gives him half the pot. That said I think folding is best as he is more likely to have a set here than a draw. Pushing is second best. |

He certainly isn't an idiot. [/ QUOTE ] In addition to what was already said: By not showing strength on the flop, he may think you are just trying to steal the flop. Also, maybe you strike him as the type of player capable of making a big laydown? If he thought any of this, that opens up the possible hands he may have, e.g. TTP, draw, or nothing at all. |
