30/60 Stud8 - Tough spot (I think)
Villain is loose-aggressive, but probably not stupid. I think he plays predominantly shorthanded, though he might just suck. On 3rd, I figure his raise can mean a lot of things, including most hidden high or low pairs and 3-lows (he'll never limp first-in w/ a low card showing IMO). Possibly some other hands. Knowing this, is 3rd reasonable?
On 5th, I need a plan. Obviously it looks like I have a busted low, which changes the dynamic a bit. How much is my hand worth, if I call am I showing down more often than not, etc. Does your plan change if Villain plays tighter? Or is it just an easy fold? 7 Card Stud High-Low ($30/$60), Ante $5, Bring-In $10 (converter) 3rd Street - (0.83 SB) Seat 2: xx xx 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]___completes___calls Hero: J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]___raises Seat 4: xx xx Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]___folds Seat 5: xx xx 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]___folds Seat 6: xx xx 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]___brings-in___folds 4th Street - (5.17 SB) Seat 2: xx xx 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]___bets Hero: J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]___checks___calls 5th Street - (3.58 BB) Seat 2: xx xx 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]___bets Hero: J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]___........ |

Re: 30/60 Stud8 - Tough spot (I think)
I really don't think you're giving up anything folding on 3rd. On 5th against a made low you're like a 3:2 or 2:1 dog and against Aces with a 4 low you're like a 4:1 dog, against any pair and 4 low you're a 3:2 dog. I guess that makes it right to call, althought I think I'd just fold. If you do call here then you have to show down unless the opponent makes an open pair of any sort while you don't improve.

Fold 5th, and I don't think it's close.
I like the play on 3rd if you think the raise will get it heads up. |

Re: 30/60 Stud8 - Tough spot (I think)
Do you think that the other guy is raising third street with a three-card Eight? Coming from most folks, that looks more like a big pair--probably bigger than Jacks. Jacks suck anyway. I dump third with nary a second thought.
Having made it to fifth, I think this is an easy fold. |

I fold 3rd in that situ at least 95% of the time; 4th & 5th 100%.

Awesome, that's what I thought about 5th...figured it could be too weak against a LAG though. 3rd I'll think about some more, but I still like it.

Re: 30/60 Stud8 - Tough spot (I think)
Third is fine IMO if you have good control of your opponent and think you can outplay him, these plays do put you in some tough spots later on IMO though. Fifth is an easy fold IMO, if he didn't have the ace it would be more debateable, but with it, calling down is suicide more often than not

Re: 30/60 Stud8 - Tough spot (I think)
Alright, the 3 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] brings in.
A loose-aggressive player completes with the 8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] showing and two other [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]'s out on the board, plus a Queen overcard AND three cards better for low than what he has showing. You raise with the J/J in the hole plus the 4 showing, everyone gets out of the way and he calls. You pickup a King on the turn and check-call when he hits his 4. So, what was he raising with? You're hoping that he's raising 10/10 in the hole or something that you can beat. If he's raising Q/Q, K/K, A/A or a three-card low draw or a three-card flush then you are not in good shape. I think this is an easy fold. It looks to me like you're getting freerolled here. |
