The only time I ever been to Houston was in the summer of 1991. I found it to be muggy and gross. Now, my wife has this bug up her butt about possibly moving there someday. I'd like to hear the pros and cons about living in the 4th (or is it 3rd?) largest city in the US. I also didn't like it because I thought the Astrodome was a monstrosity. Now they have cool new baseball and football stadiums. The cost of living would be a lot better than where I live now and housing prices are a lot cheaper. Any thoughts?

great housing situation...real estate in insanely cheap there...but the city itself is an eyesore and a cultureless pit. And that's from someone who lives in Las Vegas.

I've lived in Houston for 25 years. I spent 3 years in Cleveland Ohio going to school and couldn't get back fast enough. I am moving to Phoenix in a week for work and can't wait until I can move back for good. Don't believe all of the stereotypes that you see on t.v. Houston actually has a very diverse population so it isn't a bunch of rednecks walking around in 10 gallon hats and huge belt buckles. In short, cost of living is the nuts and you still live in a "big city". If you have any specific questions go ahead and ask.

I'll be there in a week or so on business. I'm not really looking forward to it.

I'm 37 and I lived in Houston from birth-18 and 26-30.
Fourth largest city in the Nation, surprisingly cosmopolitan. Plenty of things to do, from rodeo to fine art, and everything in between. Restaurants on par with NYC and Vegas (seriously). Lots of money flowing through the town, so lots of jobs and opportunity. Housing isn't that cheap, but compared to LA or something it is. Downsides... hotter than hell all the time. There are two seasons there, summer and January 11th. Traffic is horrible all the time. No natural beauty. Lots of mosquitoes and roaches. I recently moved back to Austin, the greatest city in America. Houston's home, but Austin's where I want to live forever. |

i live an hour from there...honestly it smells terrible and the entire city has a bad case of the fat ass. Self included. And the chess club has the gayest, most arrogant and WEAK director.
