Default about to embark on my first casino bonus..2 quick questions

On the standard blackjack strategy chart thingy what does Ds stand for?

Also can somebody explain H/P to me? Is it, if you split and hit, then get a chance to double do it?

Many thanks and sorry if these questions are stupid...i'm new to this and just wanna be sure

"Ds" means if you can double then you should...if not then stand. A normal "D" would imply hitting if you can't double.

Ds means Double Down if you can, otherwise Stand (this usually applies to Soft 18 hands).

H/P, you Hit if you CAN'T double after splitting, or your sPlit if you CAN double after splitting (most casinos will have the latter in their multi-deck games).

Thanks for the reply but i'm still not getting the H/P sign. How would i know if i can double after splitting if i dont know the next 2 cards to follow? cos dont u need 2 low cards equal to 10/11 to be able to doube...so before i split 2,2 or 3,3 how will i know if i'm gonna be able to double after splitting...am i even making sense.

Sorry for the stupidity

double after splitting is an option given to you by the casino you are playing at. you don't double after split on EVERY split, just the ones where it makes sense to (either a good soft hand or a hard total of 9, 10 or 11). otherwise you just play it like any other non-split hand.

for example:
you get dealt 4, 4 and the dealer shows 6. the casino allows double after splitting so you split.
on the first 4 you get a 10, making hard 14. so you stand there.
on the other 4 you get a 7, making 11. double down.

Treat H/P as a split. It is not worth splitting if the casino does not allow you to double when you split.

For example:

22 vs dealer 2. You split

hands are 2-9 and 2-J. You double the 2-9, hit the 2-J. If you cannot double when you hit something like 2-9, it is not worth splitting.
