Re: Wow (Cool Starcraft Video)
The crowd going nutso when he stars the SCV rush really makes the video too.
As an aside, I also didn't know until 6 months ago that this game was still so popular over in Asia. I had mentioned to a friend that I started playing Starcraft again, and he informed me of this fact. Who knew... |

Re: Wow (Cool Starcraft Video)
He had 4 marines also. Doesn't a pure SCV rush mean you rush only SCVs?

How much variance is there in SC? [/ QUOTE ] If you're comparing it to poker, there is no comparison. E.g., Barry Greenstein could probably stack me over the course of a few days. But in a single 2-3 hour session, if I the cards go my way, I could stack him. No chance in Starcraft. Between top players, I don't know. But a top player will beat an average player 99 times out of 100 (at least). There's not much luck involved. In the extreme case, let's say you're an average player and you're playing Boxer. He sends his scout counterclockwise, but you're located in the clockwise direction and find him first. So you send in an early rush. Even then, Boxer probably has enough defenses (plus micro skills) to hold you off. After that, he'll almost certainly be able to hold you off and use his superior micro skills and out-resource you, getting an easy victory. SC is a lot closer to chess than poker when it comes to top players going against average players. I was never more than average with zerg and toss (and well below average with terran). But bad players have such huge weaknesses that even I could take advantage of them. The times I played against really good players, I was pwned hard. They have much better micro skills and better resource gathering skills. |

Re: Wow (Cool Starcraft Video)
Back when I was a professional starcraft player, I was a big fan of the 2-3 seige tank (w/ seige mode) + 2 marine squad semi-rush.

This was funny, anymore of these? [/ QUOTE ] http://sclegacy.com/features/pimpestplays_2003.php http://sclegacy.com/features/pimpestplays_2002.php The first link actually features the play in the OP. Unfortunately, the pimpest plays are only available in replay form, meaning you need Starcraft to view them. This link though has Youtube links to the replays: http://www.sclegacy.com/features/pimpestplays_2005.php |

Re: Wow (Cool Starcraft Video)
[ QUOTE ]
the vulture isnt supposed to be able to squeeze through that space there. Looks like hes using the spider mines and the vultures somehow to effectivly make then "jump" into the base. Damn, i kinda wanna play brood wars again (even though i hella sucked at it) [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, the move is explained here: http://www.sclegacy.com/features/pimpestplays_2004.php The vultures can't pass through that area. But by two of them laying mines in the same place, the game physics allows them to move to another area. A similar thing happens at this link: http://www.sclegacy.com/features/pimpestplays_2005.php Pimp play #7. The minerals block the marines. But by landing the barracks where the marines are, the game physics force the marines through the minerals. Cool. |
