eli ezra is a big fish in the game. gus hansen and lyle berman are also known to drop money. daniel negreanu is rumored to be a fish in the game. i imagine johnny chan is as well. the game goes when fish join in. its not like chip reese, barry greenstein, phil ivey and doyle brunson all want to sit around playing each other 4 handed till the cows come home.

$8,000 BB @ 35 hands per hour

.0375 BB/100 winrate comes out to $100 an hour

You can see one bad player would make it a very profitable table for a world class player.

It might also have to do with the fact that playing better players make smaller games that much easier to beat.

Some name players think they are the best in the world and also know (and think they know) how other name players play. They may concider their egde small but an edge non the less; It could be argured that a good player sholdn,t push small edges but a lot of name players are gamblers.

Why shouldn't a good player push small edges. The big game isn't a tournament and even if it was that principle is highly questionable.

My thoughts exactly. There is no reason to pass up any edge in a cash game.

A good player shouldn't push small (infinitesimal) edges when there are bigger edges to be pushed. Someone who could tread water in the Big Game could probably clean up in the Almost Big Game. Just my guess, though. It seems like ego drives the Peter Principle of poker up through mid-stakes, so why not all the way to the highest stakes?
