My reasoning is :
mason does self preservation switch. If he was a wolf, I think he would get his other wolves to save him with balance votes, saving self preservation switch to the end. If he is a villager, voting with him (two villagers together) is a powerful move.

But, really, no, there's not real reasoning to bandwagon someone in the first round, but it does have to happen.

well hopefully in my death I can help the village (unlikely I know). This is an interesting vote in that it helps kill me, without jumping on the bandwagon, and would be an expert move from a wolf. I'm not sure how the fact that he is a newbie affects things.
