In this instance, ignoring other benefits such as improving our hand/chances or getting a free card, it's usually profitable because he's risking 1 to win 6 meaning if everyone folds 15% of the time he'll show an immediate profit.

That's all nice and good, but this does not take into account situations where he is c/r and has to call that extra bet then fold the turn ui. I wonder if you take all those situations into account what the percentage becomes.

Sorry for all the questioning... just thinking more and more about these issues. Sorry to hijack the thread!

Well if you feel you have to call a check/raise, the risk is 1SB + (probability of being checking raised * 1SB). If you don't have to call the check/raise assuming you're not giving up any outs there's no more risk. But let's not forget the free cards you might gain and the fact you usually have equity in the pot so it's not really costing a full bet to attempt it.

This is a great spot to CR. My play is CR fold b/f turn b/f river.

Maybe I'm old-fashioned...

But how terrible is check/folding the flop?

We're out of position with a marginal holding.

You're thinking about it incorrectly. He just needs everyone to fold 1 in 7 times for it to be break even (ignoring rake) with just betting the flop. There is no obligation to calling a c/r. If calling a c/r is profitable, then it is profitable but has nothing to do with the original 1 in 7 shot at taking down the pot.

I don't like a C/R on the flop because it makes the hand much harder to play on the turn and river when both players call (which they usually do). Whenver I do something like this with middle pair it seems that someone always flips TP weak-ass kicker. Once SB folds I don't mind a bet/fold on the river.

I don't like checkraising this flop but I really can't think of a better option. My problem with checkraising is that we will bloat the pot size, and after a bet on the turn we will be giving gutshots and other 4-5 out hands close to the odds they need to peel the turn.

I'm wondering if waiting until the turn might be better and decide to raise/fold/call at that point. Raising would be for a free showdown and possibly folding out an AJ, QQ or other hand. I don't know just throwing out ideas.
