Approaching FT. 2 hands to push or fold
96 player 30+3 MTT. Loose/bad play has been prevalent. I have gotten here basically playing 4 hands:
doubled up KK v. A4 all-in preflop doubled up JJ v. K10 all-in preflop doubled up KK v. T9s all-in preflop lost half my stack AA v. JJ all-in preflop We're down to about 15 players (top 10 get paid) and I'm getting short, hovering around 9th right now. Average stack is about 13K. Hand 1: 8-handed. Blinds are 400/800. No ante. Hero (t7500) is UTG with A10o. Hero folds. Hand 2: A couple of orbits later. Blinds still 400/800. I've got t6500 left and I'm starting to think I should've pushed the A10! 7-handed with the button sitting out. UTG folds. Hero (UTG+1) picks up A7o. Hero pushes. (BB has a healthy but not massive stack) I think I should have folded here, but I got impatient. Your thoughts on both? |

Re: Approaching FT. 2 hands to push or fold
Should have probably pushed hand 1, you are sitting at 9x BB and need to double up, if you steal you are up to 10x BB and can wait for a couple of orbits.
Hand 2, I don't know why you would push this and not AT. It is a worse hand in virtually the same position. If you folded earlier I would probably fold this as well and wait for a couple of Broadway cards. |

Re: Approaching FT. 2 hands to push or fold
What are the stack sizes of people behind you, if most are slightly larger or all average then I think Hand 1 is a push even if you are UTG - you are shortstacked and need to double up. If you don't, you might make the final table, but you won't win. Who really cares about 10th (if you're playing within your bankroll).
Hand 2 is close but probably a fold...much more likelihood of it being dominated or called by 2 in between cards like KQ |
