Re: WSOP 2005-- a dealers perspective
If they're already taking a tip out of the entry fee, then there's little need to tip on top of that. Kinda like the local pizza joint that had free delivery, but added on a "delivery charge" because their drivers weren't getting tipped.
Kinda like the government double-taxing items. As far as Harrah's taking 10% of the prize pool, so? Are they not entitled for covering their costs to promote, plan, organize and run an event of 6,000 poker players? The logistics alone are ridiculous. Can they not be entitled to a profit? Be happy you aren't up here in the NorthEast, dealing with those jerks at Foxwoods who take 25% out of their weekly tourneys, ugh. We need some more poker rooms to increase competition. |

You are complaining beacuse people who already pay your salary via rake and then you get tip on top of that and that is not enough? Why not tripple tips next time? Holy [censored]... Enough is enough. |

I tip for good service, but tipping that is expected or taken out automatically is NOT tiping. It defeats the whole purpose of tipping. [/ QUOTE ] Exactly my point too. This whole tipping thing needs to stop. |

[ QUOTE ] Foxwoods who take 25% out [/ QUOTE ] I hope they are at least tipping everyone including the dealers. [/ QUOTE ] I honestly don't know. They have a $45+$15 tournament most weekday mornings, and then an $80+$20 tournament a few of the weekday mornings as well. Whether any of that goes to the dealers, I couldn't say. All I know is that Foxwoods doesn't cater to poker players, we're a necessary evil. They'd rather we're dropping our 20's in the slot machines than playing poker which isn't as profitable for them. I really wish there were more casinos in my area. |

Re: And THIS one should be titled \"How selfish do you have to be?\"
[ QUOTE ]
I do think Joe got a worse deal here. He beat way more people and got a smaller percentage of the prize pool so the risk/reward was higher. He got a proportionately worse deal than previous winners that won 20 percent of the prize pool. That's indisputable. Whether it was a bad deal is purely a matter of taste. If you'd cared to both read and comprehend my post, I didn't propose anything like you mention. My complaint was mainly related to Harrah's taking much more out of the prize pool this year (percentage wise) than was taken last year. I implied I didn't think Harrah's should be such greedy bastards. I think 10 percent should get paid. If they want to be gimmicky and make all the final table millionaires, I don't really care. I think even Full Tilt expected a 10 million jackpot for the winner based on their promotion to any qualifier from Full Tilt. I did imply that given Joe got a worse deal to the tune of 2.5 million dollars than previous winners, I can understand some disinclination to tip. Maybe 2.5 million isn't a lot of money to you, but it's a lot to me. BTW, Harrah's also changed the time of the WSOP to later in the year to correspond with low season in Vegas. Great way to fill more rooms at the Rio. It's a smart business decision and I'd probably do it too, but anyone that feels sorry for them or believes they're not milking the WSOP hard is fooling themse [/ QUOTE ] You are forgetting two important factors: 1. It was a voluntary choice to enter the event. 2. The proze pool and percentages held were available before the tournament began. If you don't like the payouts don't enter. A novel concept I know. |

Exactly my point too. This whole tipping thing needs to stop. [/ QUOTE ] you wanna see some sparks fly? try talking about tipping with someone from starbucks. i tried to tell one of them that it really isn't cool to ask us to tip, because we pay BEFORE we get our drinks. what are we supposed to do if the drink tastes like crap or if we have to wait 10 minutes or if we get our order filled wrong? ask for our tip back? anyway, she reacted to my suggestion that starbucksers not ask for tips like i had suggested that it was okay to kill puppies. i'm now boycotting starbucks and heading as often as possible to the mom and pop on my block, where the guy is glad to see me because he wants my business. the point of my story is that if someone's employed in the service industry and they're not making much money despite working hard, there's a lot of frustration there and some of it is due to fall on the customers, deserved or not, since the customers are the most visible person that the employee is dealing with. in a dream world, i'd rather that the store/restaurant/whatever just add 15% to the price, add 15% to the wages of the employees, and paste huge NO TIPPING signs all over the place. i'm not really comfortable with being responsible for judging someone's work performance and doling out rewards accordingly. isn't that supposed to be management's job? |

I don't tip because society says I have to. All right, if someone deserves a tip, if they really put forth an effort, I'll give them something a little something extra. But this tipping automatically, it's for the birds. As far as I'm concerned, they're just doing their job. [/ QUOTE ] Look, I ordered coffee. When I order coffee, I want it filled 6 times. Too f'n busy? No tip |
