I just heard a story on the radio, where Paul McCartney and his new wife (of four years) are going to get a trial separation. A part of the story was that if they end up getting a divorce, his wife will get anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2 of his net worth.

How and why? Paul McCartney earned all of his money a very long time ago. Yes, he continues to get royalties and all that fun stuff, but, man. It's not like he spent all his time as a married man earning that income, while this woman was keeping their househould held together. I mean, he had any multitude of household servants cleaning their house, mowing their lawn, etc.

Why exactly does she get anything more than [censored]?

Theres a joke doing the rounds about that that ends with she doesnt have a leg to stand on.

She offered to sign a prenup to protect his money but his disagreed.

There is also a case going through the courts at the moment that is similar a guy made his money before the marrige so is trying for a reduced settlement. This will change the case law so Mccartney would possibley be able to go down that route, although there is a child involved so that complicates things as well.

I suspect they will have an amicable divorce with a settlement that doesnt involve going to the courts or 50% of his worth, although she is meant to be a bit of a hard headed bitch so who knows.

I heard the same (i.e., he refused to sign a pre-nup). OMG, if this is the case, please remind me to never marry, because, honestly, what other case does she have? I mean, the work that earned him his money is 40 years past, she married him four years ago, and now she gets X percent of what he did all those years ago?
