No, but "bro" might be.

[/ QUOTE ]

Hmmmm.... I might be a hypersensitive Internets nerb. I'm always bothered when people call be dude. I don't mind bro though. I always call people bro. Specifically because I don't want to disrespect them by calling them dude.

[/ QUOTE ]

Dude, don't be so sensitive, bro.

My scale (least to most condescending):

Dude
Bro
Guy
Buddy
Champ
Sport

-Al

[/ QUOTE ]
"Ace" goes between "champ" and "sport".

[/ QUOTE ]

"Guy" is definitely more condescending than "buddy."

[/ QUOTE ]

Revised:

Dude
Bro
Buddy
Guy
Pal
Champ
Ace
Sport

-Al

[/ QUOTE ]
Where's chief?

Hm - I think "Chief" would fall between "Champ" and "Ace".

Bro - moderately condescending, If someone says "like" multiple times in the same sentence I usually respond with an "Alright, bro"

[/ QUOTE ]

I assume you mean "bro" is condescending when addressing a stranger/very casual acquaintance. I use "bro" all the time with good friends. I.E. "I'll talk to you later bro" at the end of a conversation.

Al - this is a pretty solid list.

Where would you rank "boss"?

Dude
Bro
Buddy

Champ
Boss
Chief
Ace
Sport

That might be pretty close to correct. Gets dicey in the bottom-half IMO.

Don't Bother Me:

Guy

Ace? Never called this but don't think it would bother me. I would just think you are strange.

Prefer:

Dude
Bro

use dude all the time. Had a guy call me slick one time. Sounds kinda smooth, but I think he was trying to start a fight with me.
