We usually play $10 buy in tourneys, and sometimes a $24 buy in NL .25/.25 cash game.

[/ QUOTE ]

$24? That seems quite random. Care to elaborate on how you came to use that structure?

[/ QUOTE ]

Dam typos...I meant $25 - 100x the bb of course.

As a general rule, the players most likely to jump up, yell, and pump their fists after dragging a $25 pot will be those MOST LIKELY TO BE THE LIMIT FISH

Fixed your post.

Take away their implied odds for stuff like 6-8 suited, and these guys are absolutely helpless, bleeding chips the whole night, fifty cents at a time.

If only I could get more of them to play on limit night. They're a lot quieter and easier to take when they're losing.

I tend to agree from experience that no one will want to play limit. How will it help more people win? If they can't even learn enough to win occasionally at NLHE it's very unlikely they'll take the time to learn the differences in strategy in LHE.

"No one at home games wants limit."

Wow, then I have a large group of "no ones"

"If they aren't showing a profit consistantly before they wont even in FL. "

Not necessarily true- as Phil Hellmuth has proved, being a good tourney player doesn't mean you're a good cash game player.

Good luck with trying though.

OK but that is not my point. My point is that 98% of home game players everywhere, not just your game. Can't play a lick. They are all TV watchers and see what they do with no understanding. Last night at my house I had a guy keep teylling me he was making the correct calls but I kept beating him because he was giving me proper odds to call. Or I was reading his bluffs as push bets. I even tried to explain this and he insists he played it right. I told him that I read his bet on the river and if he did it differently than I would have folded and he said he played it right. I kept trying to tell him I know what I would have done if you bet differently. This guy is one who says this game is all luck unless you can bluff people.

mug, why are you beating yourself over the head, trying to educate a stubborn guppy? Stop trying to prove YOU are right.

Besides, not all people play solely to win money, ESPECIALLY in home games.

And don't you think it's a tad arrogant to make this statement? "My point is that 98% of home game players everywhere, not just your game. Can't play a lick"

Do you REALLY think you're better than all but 2% of the home game population?

No-one plays SOLELY to make money, right, but it's how we keep score isn't it?

When I realised I was a long-run loser in my home game, it meant I was a poor player. I learnt the game and now I win.

A lot of home game players will never reach this stage, either because they don't realise they're losing, don't care, or their mates suck too.

Maybe more than 2% learn to play properly, but it's not much more.

Depending on what you call "properly" I disagree with this generalization. But, my group as a whole may be bringing up the level of everyone, so I could be biased.

My game, before we stopped running it, was always $0.5/$1 fixed limit. We didn't play no limit because people went way too broke way too fast, and we didn't play a tourney because they just took forever and weren't conducive to people coming and going. We held our games on a week night (I sure as hell don't want to be sitting at a friend's house playing poker on a weekend night) so people needed to be able to come and go. Fixed limit worked perfectly, and once everyone got the hang of it they seemed to enjoy it immensely.
