Firepay sucks

Firepay has my money locked up. They locked my account about 2 months ago immediately after I made a deposit. Up until that point I had been using my account just fine. They won't unlock my account because they say I have another account registered under a different email address. The email address they gave me was my brother's address, who uses his Firepay account for his own purposes (he also plays online poker). I've never logged into his account, he's never logged into mine. I might have logged into my account using his computer once like a year ago when I was visiting him, but other than that we've had nothing to do with eachother. At this point I don't really care about the account anymore, because I no longer live in MD, so I've had a Neteller account for a while, the only reason I used Firepay again to begin with was because I had reached a deposit limit of some sort at Neteller. So I just asked them to refund my money to the bank account it came from. They said they can't, but they would transfer it to "my" active account at my brother's email address. Essentially they're saying that the only way for me to see my money again is to withdraw it through my brother's account. This is incredibly disturbing.

why is it that everytime someone comes forward with a story like this, there is always something shady like this going on?

I had a feeling someone was going to post something like that. If I was doing something shady and got owned for it, do you think I would post about it here? There was nothing shady going on. Anyone who knows me would know I'm not going to lie to a message board about something like this.

You're completely right, that's just awful.

Next thing OP will be whining because his bank confiscated his money because his mom has an account at the same bank.

Wouldn't it be nice if FirePay was a real business that actually encouraged its customers to refer family and friends?

OP: If you are on good terms with your brother I suggest that you make a deal with him instead of arguing endlessly with FirePay.

It's borderline shadiness. It's been years since I lived in the same house as my brother, and I think I logged into my account once on his computer. He's never logged in on mine. We have different names, addresses, bank accounts, everything. 99% of the time I'm logging in to my account from AL, he's logging in to his account from MD. I would understand if the account was flagged. But Firepay has told me my only option is to transfer the funds to my brother's account. They keep referring to it as "my active account" even though I've told them a few times it's not mine.

What I really don't understand is that I'm just asking for them to return my deposit to the bank account it originated from. If I was in fact using Firepay fraudulently, wouldn't returning the money to its source be more secure than sending it to another account which may or may not be mine? What if my brother had gained access to my account and put in the deposit planning on stealing it from me, but then Firepay did the right thing and shut the account down before he could (he wouldn't do that, but for all they know that's a likely scenario), I bet he would love to hear that they're offering to transfer the money directly to his account. It seems there is no scenario where returning the money to where it came from would hurt anyone, but plenty of very likely scenarios where forcing me to transfer is not the best idea (such as the case I'm in).

I could have the money put into his account and I'm sure he would get it to me, but he lives 1,000 miles away, so that would be very inconvenient.

This could very well be true. When was the last time someone accusing a payment service of stupidity like this was an established user with a postcount of more than two digits?

I believe firepay will suspend your account if two accounts log into firepay with the same IP within a reasonable amount of time.

This occurred with my wife and me. I simple verification to firepay and it was resolved.

Interesting thread... first, I "currently" live in MD but have a valid VA address to use so I have both FirePay and Neteller and have communicated with both customer support due to one reason or other. I also log into both accounts using both home & work computers before (but never having to deal with ANY OTHER accounts by anyone else using my computers).

Though, I must add an experience I had with Firepay. I made an account with them in Sept 2003 and used it a lot at poker sites and sportsbooks, both deposits & withdrawals. Finally in like January 2006, I changed phone numbers as I don't have a landline phone anymore and 'simply used my e-mail pager's phone number'.

Bam, my account got suspended. WTF. Emailed them (since I'm deaf) asking why. Convo went like this below (yes, by emails!)

Firepay: "We tried to contact you via your phone number, but no answer." (That was a lie because they hadn't TRIED *yet* as my phone log didn't show a call from them.)
CalvinTy: "Actually, I just changed phone numbers on your website, and no, you haven't called me at the new number yet."
F: "we see that we tried to contact you before with the old number and did not reach you."
C: "Okay, but I'm who I am so can you re-instate my account? I have used my account just fine for more than 2 years!?"
F: "we have to call you at that new phone number"
C: "okay, you can do that but you will reach my voicemail"
F: "we need to reach you live so can you have someone else call for you?"
C: "no, i dont wish to involve another person into this financial conversation; can you offer another alternative for me to verify who I am?"
F: "sorry, but we have to reach a live person, it is our security policy"

(by that time, i cracked laughing thinking "security policy, my arse, where was your policy in letting me use my account all this time!?" so i became more silly afterwards)

C: "Are you telling me that if a hearing person who have lost his/her voice due to bad cold or etc, that person is also out of luck until he/she is better!? Look, if you call me again (they did finally try to call my email pager), I will be happy to respond/scream into the phone to verify that I'm who you are talking to!"
F: ...... no email response....

1 or 2 days later, Firepay supervisor responds to email saying something like "due to this ongoing discussion, we can now establish that you are the holder of the account and have reinstated your account".

Of course, after seeing that email, I checked quickly and nope, it hadn't been reinstated that FAST. Finally, after few more hours of waiting, I was able to get in, I believe. Crazy. [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]
