I just listen to whatever i would anyway. Sometimes i find the noises of the poker sites anoying, but if i turn them off then i get distracted and miss my turn sometimes. Adding music drowns out the beeps of the sites without doing so so much that i miss turns, if that makes sense.

I also feel like it keeps me from getting bored but it doesnt really distract me and it's better than other more distracting alternatives like TV, games, etc.

I honestly had the same problem and fixed it by putting the same song on repeat the whole time. It really works well IMO.

I know what you mean because I am a lyrics guy.
I always had difficulty studying with music or falling asleep with music on because my mind is drawn to lyrics.

Have you ever tried classical or jazz?

I listen to metal sometimes also. Sort of drowning out the lyrics(if you could even understand them anyway) and concentrating on the beat.
It tends to get me wired up which is good for my game anyway.

I find that I forget the music is even on. Before I know it I'm back to the top of the playlist or my entire library and don't remember one thing I've listened to.

I think it's probably at least a little bit helpful in keeping my senses stimulated. I find that I can sit here for hours with it on, but finding myself a little more tired/drained after only 2-3 hours w/o it.

As of late (call me re re) I just discovered the radio stations on itunes and have really been enjoying the Jazzmusique station under "electronica."

Honestly, I can't listen to music while doing anything that takes concentration.

i mostly listen to low volume instrumental rock/jazz or electronic, I actually find it helps me much more then silence.

www.pandora.com is another great internet radio, based on music genome project-- it actually intelligently (somewhat) suggests albums for you to listen to
