BK, you've inspired me to do a 2 years as a pro post. Maybe I will one of these days. Great read - I knew most of it already but it's always cool to take a look at it as a whole.

James I hope you make that post. I really enjoy reading post like this. May is my first month pro and it is always good to know that others are in the same situation and doing well.

James - You should definitely do one of these posts also.

I really get a lot out of these types of observations made by guys like you, BK, schneids, ggbman, etc. and I'm sure many other 2+2'ers do as well.

Regarding the swings, I had one 70k breakeven stretch in the fall and am on another 70k stretch right now.

Those 'flats' suck big time. It seems you are very even keeled emotionally. Great post.

Always enjoy reading your reports.
Hope you have a great investment advisor and a liitle bit of your profits ends up towards charitees. GooD karma never hurts. I would be curious and I know its something most would not post on how much you have earned from poker?
Also did you have an early stretch were so much money was coming in that you were a little carless in your spending.

Good post, especially knowing that you had two 70k breakeven periods gives me motivation to dig out of mine.

BK,

Awesome post. I'm coming close to my 1 year mark as a pro, and my story is really similar to yours in a lot of aspects. I'll probably do a write up one day, but not yet.

As far as downswings go, I completely understand where you're coming from. I play NL, and last month I wound up hitting a 21 buy in downswing ($21k), and ended the month essentially even for the month after 50kish hands. I'm still struggling to regain composure this month and get back to my 'A' game, but really, the best way is to just keep on playing and get your confidence back, because confidence is one of the most important factors in being successful at poker and is often overlooked. Also, you make a lot more than most people your age could even imagine. Even if you don't make another dime for the rest of the year, and break even, life is good.
