Re: Best way to open a beer without a bottle opener?
[ QUOTE ]
Not only suds and household damage, I've broken bottles doing this. I wish I'd never been told this idea. [/ QUOTE ] I've never broken a bottle this way. This is essentially the same thing a lot of people are saying in this thread. As long as you are quick and cover the bottle, you don't spill, and don't do it on soft surfaces. The best method is to have a bottle opener on you keychain, but if you have nothing, you have to make do. |

With a lighter, second beer bottle, the back side of a spoon, knife or fork, teeth, the method of resting the cap of the bottle on something and hitting it (use the crate for that)....

Re: Best way to open a beer without a bottle opener?
Am I the only guy who does it with keys? I find house keys work better than car keys. Work the little points on the key blade under the cap and then levering the the bottom of the key against the bottle and pulling the top of the key towards you so it bends the bottom edge of the cap away from the bottle. Work your way all around the cap doing this until it's loose enough to come off. No damage to furniture, no broken bottles, no suds and no useless macho posturing. Sorry for the bad ASCII art but hopefully this gets the idea across.

Re: Best way to open a beer without a bottle opener?
[ QUOTE ]
Grip beer bottle tightly near the top of the neck. Place lighter under lid. Use the top of your index finger (still gripping the bottle) as a fulcrum, and pry the damn lid off. [/ QUOTE ] This is correct. Takes a bit of practice but it's well worth it, and can be done with practically any instrument. Just need to get leverage at the base of your index finger. Or you could try that thing with the key but you might chip a nail if you're not careful. |

Re: Best way to open a beer without a bottle opener?
You can do it with a ring on your finger. A cousin of mine (a Navy guy) uses his college ring to open beer bottles. I don't know the exact technique, but I'd like to learn.
