I realise this hand shouldn't be difficult, but I'm just trying to teach myself to play NL properly. Is this standard, both pre-flop and then on the flop? I know one of my weaknesses is calling off too much money without a clear plan. I think more often than not, villain has a queen here, and is usually ahead of me because of my kicker, and, even if he's betting a draw, I'm not far ahead with two to come. Any thoughts?
Villain is pretty new to the table, but hasn't done anything silly, and isn't playing every hand. Preflop, I'd rather raise than limp. Give him the opportunity to define his hand better.
Flop, I'm definitely not folding. Villain may well have you outkicked, but that's a very wet board and he may be semi-bluffing his draw. I think calling is OK, and then see how he reacts on the turn, but raising would work as well. Make it $6-8 and you make life very uncomfortable for draws as well as QJ, even KQ. |
