Why would you build new casinos in AC when the old crappy ones pack in the fish? Vegas has to build new resorts all the time to attract people who come from far away.

I do know that up unitl a few years ago the gambling revenues from the AC casinos was higher than the casinos on the Strip. The Strip might be more now because of all of the new casinos. [/ QUOTE ] I'm just totally floored. |

Off-topic, but I just read today in the Philly papers that for the first time since it was built the Borgata was not the top grossing casino in AC, it was beat out by Bally's. Amazing... the 65-death age group really coming out in force! |

This is well known in the gambling world. People go on vacation in Las Vegas and gamble while they're there. This is tons of other stuff to do - shows, booze, naked women, just exploring the mega resorts for days on end. Even high end casinos have cheap tables available for tourists who don't bring all their vacation money to bet with. Also, there is much more competition so $10 and lower tables are universally available.
Now go to Atlantic City. People go there to gamble period with socks stuffed with benjamins. Yes, there is more to do now than there once was, but bottom line - it's a gambling town. $25 mins are the norm on weekends. The small number of casinos means less competition and higher minimums. It's an easy drive from numerous metropolitan areas full of rich people so the casinos are always packed where Vegas casinos are often empty. Borg has a HUGE pit of BLACK CHIP BJ tables on Saturdays stuffed to the brim with people waiting to sit. It's just different than Vegas...people bet their balls off and most tourists in Vegas sit with one C-note. That's the difference. Jeff |

LV probably gives alot of their revenue back in comps. Hotel rooms are probably cheaper in LV. A comparison I heard is that in LV they give you a good gamble and in AC they try to get in your pockets. You even have to pay for parking in AC.

Quite simply there are much more people within a car ride to AC. Long Island is 21/2 hours, NYC is 2 hrs, Philly is an hour, that is why they generate much more revenue per casino as opposed to vegas.
