yes but skp how do you counter the argument that because we don't know when the poker boom will end, that there is increased urgency to make lots of money now?

especially for people with no other marketable skills

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, I guess that is a valid flip side to the argument.

But you know what, if you play well, there is always money to be made in poker. You just have to find the game and limit where you have a comfortable edge on your opponents. Also, at least in the mid limts i.e. 30/60 or higher, the boom may already be over. What I mean is that I don't think that these games are flooded with fish. Don't get me wrong: The games are still good with the occasional fish, lagtards etc. But it's not as if there are tons of them now and they wont be there tomorrow, next week, or next year. I don't foresee the games getting considerably tougher than they are now.

But there might be issues with online gambling being legislated out etc. I don't know. I haven't really followed that angle too closely. So, I suppose that if that is a concern and if you truly don't have any fall back options, then getting out the toothpicks to prop open your eyes while multitabling 8 games 12 hours a day might just be the unavoidable route to take.

I couldn't imagine anything more boring.

It took me less than a year to go from 3/6 to 20/40 and about 15 months to go from 3/6 to anything-1/2-and-under.

However, I'm not winning at the same rate anymore and am thinking I fit skp's description. These past two months have shaken my confidence.

Game became a lot tougher...thats all. You'll adjust but some win rates are just a thing of the past.

Took me one year to go from 5c/10c to 30/60. Kept to pretty strict BR guidelines and had to move down in limits quite a few times, only took one shot and that was at 10/20. Not sure exactly how many hands, was probably around ~1000 hours worth of play.
