Welcome to Bush's America. Be afraid! Give up your rights! Give up your advanced technologies and all that is sinful under the Christian Church!

Seriously, wtf is up with Republicans expanding the influence of the federal government

The Washington State bill did not come from Republicans. And the national one is backed by both parties.

Yes, people are not seeing the problem realistically. Bush has never said a word about internet poker. I don't want to argue politics here, but people have to be realistic.

I have not heard the "Christian Right" say a lot about internet poker. The politicos in both parties just hate having things they can't control and tax. Yes, they tax the players but they want to tax the casinos too.

Personally, I can see a lot of ways Democrat power would be a danger to online poker. For one thing, the Dems prefer higher taxes, particularly on "evil" corporations. Maybe they would have the government control online gaming but regulate it so that the taxes would make the rakes so high nobody could win, but the government.

Also, it is the Dems that attack things like gambling because it is unfair to the "little guy". translation, the government knows better about how you should live than you do, see: smoking.

I am not arguing that either party is "for" online gambling. On the contrary, I am saying the majority in both parties think they know better than you do. They want control.

Sounds like they're mulling it over and slowly waking up to the fact that online gambling could be a HUGE windfall for them if they play their cards right.

They have known that for some time, and would love to see it legalized. I believe that both Harrahs and MGM tried online sites overseas, but could not make a go of it because they blocked US players.

As a Washington State Resident I am furious,

I bet someone 100 dollars that this law gets trashed by the State Supreme Court.

Whoops, guess I am going to jail now.

Wanted to let you know I had started a thread on ith, becz I'm in the same boat-- living in Washington. There's a pretty great idea contained in it, but definitely no quick fix. Hope you will have a read. http://www.internettexasholdem.com/phpbb...ng-vt38693.html

webmonarch, best wishes on passing the bar. As your post was nearly a month ago, you probably know by now. Hope 'grats are in order.

Regards,

Sticking to the topic of this thread, this bill was passed by a Democrat-controlled house, and a Democrat-controlled senate and was signed by a Democratic governor. Your beef is not with Bush or the Republicans. Your problem on this bill is with the Democrats.

Not saying that the Republicans are any different on this issue, but this a$$ rape was done to us by the Democratic party. The sponsor of this bill is a proud member of the ACLU, and the Washington chapter of the ACLU has refused to respond to my numerous requests that they take a position on this form of internet censorship.

The part I don't understand is, everywhere I turn I read about how much money the online poker industry has. Given that, why isn't some organization challenging the Washington law in court right now? Surely *some* organization would want to step up to challenge the law, even if just to delay things. What gives?

The bill was supported overwhelmingly by both parties. Your beef is with anyone that is catering to tribal casinos.
