Default being slowplayed

I play small no limit cash games (generally $.25/$.50 or $.50/$1.00) and am trying to grow the old bankroll. One problem I have found in my game of late is being slowplayed. I try not to fall in love with hands, but it seems lately I'm getting trapped a lot. Let's say I have AK and I get a king on the flop with no straight or flush possiblities. I'll bet, get called. Turn, bet and get called. Then on the river when I bet again, I'm facing a large raise. Maybe they flopped two pair or a set. It seems like its happening a lot to me lately. What have you found that can help me sniff out these slowplayers so that I stop losing so much money on them? Thanks.

One word: pot control. I'm sure some of the more experienced player can elaborate much better than me. But like the old saying goes; "small hand: small pot, big hand: big pot).

In your specific example it's probably wise to check the turn without any flush or straight possiblities on the board.
