Tonight, I felt the joy of Pot Limit Omaha high
I made $50 and stopped my endless losing streak at NL hold'em cash games. I played $25 PL Omaha and $50 PL Omaha. What a refreshing change. I played without any software assistance but I felt like I need something to calculate my outs. Do you guys use something? I really think I can make some money off of this. It felt good to win and I saw some guys..lots of guys that had no clue. It's like playing Hold'em in the 80's or something even though I didn't play Hold'em in the 80's but Johnny Chan sure as hell did.

Re: Tonight, I felt the joy of Pot Limit Omaha high
Do you guys normally chase flush draws? If you are chasing, you are normally up against a set, right? Well, in this case, you wouldn't have 9 outs to the flush but 6 since 3 of the outs would make his full house. Right? So you'd need like 7 to 1 to chase your flush draw.

Re: Tonight, I felt the joy of Pot Limit Omaha high
On the flop, you have 9 outs to the flush, correct. But two of the cards on board are of the suit you're looking to flush in, so the board can't pair that card with the same suit... if that makes sense. It's not possible. What I mean is that there is only 1 card on the board that isn't of the suit, so that's the only card (of your suit) you need to worry about not being a nut out.
eg. flop: Kh 8h 2s You have: Ah 6h x x The 2h is the only heart (at this stage) that can pair the board _and_ give you the flush. Tastysnacks, you were counting all three flop cards and removing them from your outs. Aaaaaaanyways... Generally, you have 8 nut outs, and you have them twice. Thus, making for much better than 7 to 1. When you can combine it with a straight draw of some sort, you'll see why sets can be so easily cracked. And yes, not too many people really know how to play omaha. Hopefully it stays that way for a while. =) |

Re: Tonight, I felt the joy of Pot Limit Omaha high
I'm going to play some more tonight. Anyway, software?
Would you rather be drawing to a nut hand or have the top set on the flop and trying to price people out? Which side would you rather be on? Last night, I was drawing most of the night and I made out pretty well. If the price was too high, then I folded. I didn't hit top set the whole time but still did well. |

In some sense, all hands are draws until you get to the river. It is just a matter of pushing equity edges and not making gross folding errors.

If I had to choose one or the other, it would depend on the draw. There are some draws that are big enough that they're actually a favorite over top set. |

Whether or not there is software that does what you're looking for, I do not know. However, using a crutch in the beginning of learning the game is a good way to become a mediocre player who knows the What but not the Why.
