Default noobish Q

so, an OOT thread that i linked below instigated me to make this post. i have been mentally examining these issues, but thought you guys would have better insight than i am gathering atm. if you need more info about my current situation, please ask...thanks in advance

i posted the following in that thread, but noone wanted to reply:

at what point is a financial advisor a smart move? how do you go about finding one, what do you look for in one?

i am in need of creating what so many have pointed out in this thread, and not so sure that i have the skills, time, discipline and energy to do so.
