Sure, Hellmuth does embarass himself on TV regularly. He also seems to sometimes play some strange poker on TV in tournaments. However, he does end up on FTs and in towards the end of tournaments pretty often, in addition to his "9 time World Champion" poker line.
Sure, his cash play was awfu, but on the other hand, its not like he was playing 8 internet qualifiers on HSP. Doyle, Barry G, Negreanu, Eli Elizra, not exactly playing 5/10 NL on Party. I think what the OP is trying to point out is while there were probably 5 threads on how outrageous the "I can dodge bullets,baby" comment was, there wasn't much commentary on how he did lay down AK on A44 board. That really is some great discipline. As much as we say he can only play holdem, he did make an omaha table, so he can't be as bad in that as we would like to think.

When Phil finished second in the 2004 WSoP Tournament of Champions Single Table Sit and Go it was awesome. That pretty much locked up his legacy, imo.

This supposes that tournaments are the best measure of poker skill, which I think is incorrect. I'm also not even convinced that he is the best tournament player ever. He has a large absolute number of results, but he plays every freaking tourney there is. I suspect that there are a number of people (not like thousands, but more than just a handful) who could do what he has done if their entire goal were just to win WSOP bracelets.

For the bashers just wanted to point out hes cashed in wsop more times than anyone, and those bashing his hsp showing how many of you don't go broke with KQ on a KQrag flop? answer- everyone including EVERY pro goes broke there.
