Bald Eagle Nest - Live Web Streaming
Hello OOT,
For the last few months, there has been a web cam (with sound) directly observing an eagle's nest located up the eastern coast of Vancouver Island. Specifically, the nest sits atop a tree on Hornby Island in the Gulf Islands area of British Columbia. Apparently, this pair has been nesting in this nest for about 19 years -- usually producing 2 young per year. This is the fist time they have had a live video feed. The camera sits slightly above nest level approximately 3 feet from the eggs and often inches from the eagles. Throughout the day the eagles take turns sitting on their two eggs, whilst the other is away. Here are a couple screen shots: Hornby Island Eagle Nest Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) To see the eagles live during daylight hours (they replay that same day during the evening): link to live feed note: open this page in internet explorer Here are some more links that show short video segments of the eagles doing their thing: eagles switching another switch eagle on nest returning to nest Finally, a link to a post on their forums with a bunch of links to even more videos if you so desire (also daily screenshots are posted as well in a sticky thread): link to post Hornby Island Eagle Nest Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) I definately recommend tuning into the live feed during the day. It bloody amazing to watch live a pair of eagles in the wild. Cheers, Sean ps. I can't find a previous mention of this here in OOT but appologize if it has already been posted. |

Re: Bald Eagle Nest - Live Web Streaming
watch out it gets addicting. you may find yourself watching every day. i have a new osprey nest i can see out my window on the river and every morning its the first thing i look at. they dont have eggs yet. there is also a bald eagle nest around the corner out of sight from my house but i get to see them flying back and forth. springtime is wonderful for wildlife watching.
when the eggs hatch you will go crazy with how cute the little chicks are and spend way too much time on the site. good luck. its sure fun. |

Re: Bald Eagle Nest - Live Web Streaming
Very nice. At my old job, there was an eagle pair that nested in a cell phone tower that was maybe 500 yards from my office window. Very cool. I am going to look for the baby eagle pictures that I took....

Re: Bald Eagle Nest - Live Web Streaming
Ray,
i am a bit of a naturalist in my free time anyway and find any excuse to go search out new wildlife watching spots. last year i found a great blue heron rookery in the the woods with at least 20 active nests---really quite amazing. i completely aggree that it is addicting and this site particularly so because i can be at my desk and tune in whenever i want. although it certainly would be nice to be able to see a river and nest out my window---someday. cheers, sean |
