Default Quick question

in the book ace on the river, barry suggests that every time you have less than 10 x the bb in a tournament, it should be a all-in-o-raama or fold type deal

now in the book making the final table erick lindgren says that you should still raise 3-4 times the bb everytime because by pushing all-in you're practically giving up, because no worse hand would call you.

which play here has more merit would you say?

Just push. If you raise to 4BB with a <10BB stack you're going all in on the flop anyway.

Actually, if you push, you will get much better hands to fold. Usually when you are short-stacked most people are not much better off than you are and if you double through them you leave them crippled. They're aware of this and are not likely to get involved without a premium holding--they're just trying to survive just like you are.

In many situations you can push with literally any 2. You're not "giving up" at all. In a lot of cases, you can grab 2-3 rounds worth of blinds before anyone gets wise. This gives you breathing room and you can wait for something better.
