Default Ruling on button

When it goes from 3 to 2 players. How do you decide where the button goes? I dont think in heads up play that there is a dead button, so where does it go in that case?

The button acts last post flop, therefore the small blind is the button.

The way we play is the BB moves to the next player due for it and the button goes to the other player. Basically moving from 3 to 2 players, nobody should post the BB twice in a row.

That's how we do it as well. Whoever isn't the new BB gets the SB and the button, so there aren't any dead seats. I've seen it done this way in other places as well like the local casino or something, but I'm not exactly sure where.

Correct for most rule sets, though I'm not sure of the logic that you're using about button acting last post-flop.

The button goes to the player who is due to pay the BB on the next hand. The other player is the SB.

So, I was UTG and now I jump to the button and only post the SB?

I just use the idea that the button has to move. If a player still in had the button before the hand, the other person gets it. If the person that had the button gets knocked out, it just moves to whoever was supposed to have it next.

Maybe my logic is wrong. I always figure that button is the coveted position because it acts last post flop. It doesn't make sense to have it act last pre and post. I don't think I'm explaining my thinking very well, but I hope the gist comes across.

No, I was wrong. Don't know what I was on when I wrote that.

My Real Answer: Whomever would be the next player to pay the BB still does so. By default the button goes to the player who ISN'T due to play the BB.

Here's a link to HomePokerTourney where they describe how this works better than I can: http://www.homepokertourney.com/button.htm
