What Bottle of Alcohol do I Give?
My old man spent a bunch of cash taking me skiing this year, bought me a sweet new parka, and gave me his less than worn out pair of Vokl SnowRanger's to boot. Total value of $1000 is my educated guess. I want to give him something that says thank you properly. He is a wine drinker and I've also seen him drink cognac and whiskey. My budget is $200 tops for a single bottle of something. What should it be?

Re: What Bottle of Alcohol do I Give?
30yr old Laphroaig
I think you should be able to find this in the States for at (or slightly over) your budget. |

It's my personal favourite, but it's even peatier than the others and maybe not the safest gift. Lagavulin might be the best one to go for actually: peaty and strong, but with a sweeter character. Older bottlings of Laphroaig are generally easier to find than Lagavulin though. |

Once, when i had a cold, the cask strength Laphroaig was the only thing i could taste. I come from SW england, and i used to cycle down a road through an area which used to be a big peat-bog extraction industry. The smell and taste of Laphroaig is extremely evocative to me, which is why I harp on about it. |

And i personally [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Laphroaig. [/ QUOTE ] MMMMM, me too, Laphroaig is my favorite scotch. The 30 Year Laphroaig is a excellent suggestion. For Lagavulin, try and locate the 12 Year Old Cask Strength bottling. It was a one time bottling but you can still find it here and there. Runs about $160 or so. If youre not sure you father will like a very peaty/smoky scotch go for an expensive Highland Park. Will be in the ballpark of $200 for one of the older ones. |
