Calling raises with pocketpairs. How big is the value of position.

100NL Party Poker. You buy in for the max buyin, everybody covers. You are new to the table so no read yet.

Situation 1:
You are on the button, holding 77. CO raises to 4BB. You call and everybody else folds.

Situation 2:
You are in the BB, holding 77. CO raises. All else folds, you call.


1)How much more money do you expect to win on average when you hit your set in position than out of position?

2) Assume the flop is K72rainbow. What is your plan in postion, OOP?


3) Assume the flop is Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
What is your plan OOP and in position?

I make a lot more in position. It's not close at all. 77 is very playable HU in position even when you miss the set.

Mid-small pocket pairs are marginal winner for me >4 positions off the button. They are huge winners <= 4 off. I'm not sure if the difference is explained by getting paid more when I hit, or being able to take it down when I miss.

Kind of of topic, but does anybody know of a way to filter out sets in PT. I'm guessing it would be possible in some kind of Access programming. Anybody have a link handy. Yeah I could Google it, but I'd guess most of the links I'd get are not applicable.

position is everything.

You often need position to get paid when you hit and to win a hand when you dont.

You can look up all your trips by going to Misc Stats and clicking on Three of a Kind in the top table there.

Three of a kind includes trips, sets, and trips on the board, and, IIRC, you can't apply filters to that section.

FWIW, I adapted theblitz's SQL to a simple postgresql view for tracking sets but I never got around to fleshing it out. The PT SQL forum would be probably be able to satisfy OP's first question.

You can't filter them out specifically in that section as to what kind of trips they are. But you can see all your three of a kind hands one by one. I ot 37 in 10,216, so wading through them is doable but far from quick.
