Looks pretty bad, what were you planning to do on a blank turn? Call down?

This depends on how your opponent plays and how you play other hands (pairs and real draws) in these situations. What are you trying to accomplish?

Yes this is a leak. You probably wasted close to an entire SB on the flop. Either decide you have enough chance of being ahead, and make a play somewhere, or decide you are behind and fold the flop. Calling the flop bet and then check-folding the turn is just spewage.

If you had planned on calling down with a better turn card, that is also bad. You are taking a WA/WB line when you are clearly not WA.

youre bleeding money by checkcalling this flop and checkfolding the turn. if you checkcall this flop it means that youre ready to go to showdown if a bad card like a king doesnt come. i think commiting yourself to a showdown on this flop by calling the flop is a bad move. the board is bad, too coordinated and youre in a reverse implied odd situation. id let him have it.

Would anyone 3-bet this preflop to defend against a possible steal?

You don't three bet the flop. You might three bet PF, but with no reads I usually wouldn't do it unless I was sooted with that A8.
