6 handed UTG = 4th Pos 9 handed with 3 folds?
Can somebody please tell me how to adjust the NLHE strategy to short handed games. Is it the same like in a nine handed games when the first three positions fold? Or is there something to the theory that T.C. Coultier states in his book: When some people fold in front of you it becomes more likely that the players in late position do have premium cards. If so, does it mean that you can loosen up more in the 6handed game?

Re: 6 handed UTG = 4th Pos 9 handed with 3 folds?
In general, the assumption that the first 3 people folded is good. In a 52-card deck, with 6 cards out, theres no reason to think that the late position players have better cards just because the early ones folded. They could (and should) have feld hands like ATo, KJo, etc.
Basically, in shorthanded games you should raise with a wider range because there are fewer players who can have strong hands. When I played full ring (10 max) I raised preflop about 8% of the time. In 6-max, I raise preflop about 15% of the time. Of course, styles vary, but you generally should be more aggressive in shorthanded games to be successful. |

I dont see why so many people have problems transitioning from shorthand to fullring or cash games to tournies. But i'll try to help out a bit.
Since there are less players in the game, you will open up ur game and become more aggressive, steal more pots etc. this is due to the fact that the blinds are coming around faster. If you wait all day for premiums like you could at full ring u will lose money. So you need to start raising with more hands... everything else is the same, analyze hands and what to do in the same manner as full ring. I play short ring more than full ring just because I feel I can outplay the players and exploit small edges. It is ezier to isolate and play against donkeys in more hands on a sh table. |
