Fair point. I know I am dreaming, but I'd love to find something between $500 - $750.

My guess is you can find a place somewhere in West Virginia.

Joking aside, I prefer Georgetown. Lots of nightlife, shopping, restaurants, etc. and it's fairly safe. For your price range, you're better off looking for a room to rent in a nice place.

I live on Capitol Hill and pay $650 per month. I share a townhouse with two roommates. I consider this "cheap housing."

My Brother,

Would you happen to have a spare room or even a closet I could sublet? I occasionally need some privacy in a convenient location. You'd really never even realize I was around. I'd be very quiet except for the isolated occasion when I get some bad product, or bring one of my ho's in for an hour or two.

You're not going to find anything even close to $500 near a subway unless you are willing to share a bedroom. Even $750 is pushing it.

I have stayed at several establishments for free (with purchase) that were near subways. I only had to share the room with a dozen or so people and some rats. PM me for their locations. I can't post them here as I don't want to see my friends raided.

YAAAAY DC! My favorite city. First of all, do not under any circumstances live in Virginia. It is horrid (except Arlington, maybe, but it's still mildly horrid.) MD has many cheap places to live near Subways that have roots, culture, trees, and 99.99999% fewer Virginians. I heartily recommend Silver Spring, specifically near or around a certain street.

Living in DC is great, tho. As others have said, Capitol Hill and Adams Morgan are relatively cheap. So are many other parts of North West DC: My brother lives in Shaw and it is very hip and awesome. However, all parts of DC can be dangerous, so don't be dumb. Most of SE, NE, and SW are too dangerous to live in. There are exceptions, but there you are. Don't go anywhere near Georgetown if you can help it, unless you want to go shoe shopping with your mom.

Post here for specific advice RE: music, bars etc...

Wishing I was moving back,

Hey there,

I moved to the DC metro area last august.

Unlike other cities, the suburbs and surrounding areas aren't a lot cheaper than the city itself.

The hot areas for singles:
- Adams Morgan (DC)
- Dupont Circle (DC)
- Arlington/Clarendon (VA)

I currently live in Alexandria because I work in Fairfax, so will probably move closer to Arlington come next August. I'd reccomend against alexandria (older demographics, long commute into work).

Your best bet for cheap rent is to find multiple roommates. I currently pay 550/month and live in a 4bedroom house.

Studios in good areas in DC (near adams morgan, etc), typically go for around $1000-1200 per month on average, and even much more.

I'd try to find at least one roommate - you can probably find a place for around $700-800 a month.

Feel free to give me a shout if you want to get into a home game or just go out drinking.

Georgia Avenue/OP,

Maryland is much worse than Virginia. And it's not even close.

I'd like to find some cheap housing that is relative safe and near a subway. Anyone know anything?

Try southeast.

Anacostia might be a good choice.

And be wary of what poboy said: gay people love promiscuous sex, so you might just get jumped and nailed while walking down the street.

I bet you $10,000 Virginia is better than Maryland. If I lose, I'll transfer you $10,00 on Neteller.
