Re: Summer in Washington D.C.
I'd check out Capitol Hill. There is a lot of affordable housing in this area due to the constant turnover in Congressional interns and staff. Look on Craigslist and be prepared to sort through a lot of bad choices before you find the one you want.
There are plenty of places for young people to hang out in DC. In DC proper, Georgetown, Adams Morgan, and Dupont are all good options. You can also take the Metro over to Clarendon in VA. It really depends on what your scene is. |

Re: Summer in Washington D.C.
If you are rich they want your taxes to be higher.
If you are middle class or poor, they want them to be lower. If you're a big corporation (many of whom pay no income tax at all), then you're screwed. |

Re: Summer in Washington D.C.
Cheap housing in DC doesn't exist. I lived by the Foggy Bottom metro stop in a studio (perhaps 425 square ft) for $765, and that was 6 years ago. Consider living outside DC in VA near a metro stop. Craigslist is a good start. Also, it will be very hot and humid in the summer. Enjoy.

Going against Bisonbison's advice, [/ QUOTE ] first mistake [ QUOTE ] I decided to accept an internship in Washington DC this summer [/ QUOTE ] you know not what you do... [ QUOTE ] I would like to turn to OOT to get advice about Washington in the summer, since I have never really spent any time there. [/ QUOTE ] Its hot as hell, muggy as [censored], and you will SCKY if you don't invest in some great air conditioning. [ QUOTE ] Where do the young people hang out? Best resource for finding a place (or most anything else). Stay away from bars like Smith Point. And be wary of what poboy said: gay people love promiscuous sex, so you might just get jumped and nailed while walking down the street. |

Mr. Mayor, can you hook with up with some rock? PM me please. Re: Summer in Washington D.C.
I live on Capitol Hill and pay $650 per month. I share a townhouse with two roommates. I consider this "cheap housing."

Fair point. I know I am dreaming, but I'd love to find something between $500 - $750. [/ QUOTE ] If this is your goal you'll need multiple roommates. Check craigslist, talk to local universities, etc. If you can afford it you should also plan a trip out to take a look at various places and neighborhoods... areas can go from nice to pretty sketch in like a block. |

[/ QUOTE ] You're not going to find anything even close to $500 near a subway unless you are willing to share a bedroom. Even $750 is pushing it. Arlington, VA is nice (thats where I currently live) but it is kind of a far commute to capitol hill. Adams Morgan is probably your best bet. |
