Re: What\'s the best way to fire someone?
The problem with truth in this scenario is that most people who get fired are losers, but they know ways to manipulate the system for their own lazy benefit. Telling them the truth without proper documentation is like handing them a loaded weapon, pointed right at you.
Years ago, I worked in a produce department with a guy who, in retrospect, had a serious heroin or pill problem. Called in sick a lot, claimed chronic fatigue syndrome, was worthless (it's not like it was burger-flipping pay; most of us made $12+/hour at the time plus bennies). Finally the company canned him, but because they didn't do so according to the letter of the law he got his job back several months later WITH BACK PAY. Totally disgusting. I quit the union right after that, pointing out that all they ever did was protect the jobs of losers that I carried on my back. |

Re: What\'s the best way to fire someone?
Most states have "at will employment" so your boss never needs a reason to fire you. He can tell you that abraham lincoln came to him in a dream and told him you were a threat to national security, and you couldn't do anything about it besides collect unemployment.
Unemployment is an issue though. If you are laid off (because of recession or something) then you can get unemployment. If you are at fault, you can't get unemployment. Notice the way you are fired has nothing to do with getting paid backwages or getting reinstated. The exceptions are discrimination. |

Quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That is zero percent true. You know nothing about employment law. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- True -- I know nothing about employment law. What if the reason is something like, "I know you're browsing internet porn at work and beating off in the bathroom." What if a few people told you that, but it turned out to be false. Could the employee sue and demand evidence? [/ QUOTE ] not unless you have a contract of some sort that says that you can. |

Re: What\'s the best way to fire someone?
here is a true story.
a guy that worked at my old job was told by the boss that he had good news from him and he was going to be able to work from home from now on. the old man is very happy and tells me guess what i get to work at home now. He calls me later that day after he cleans out his desk and takes what is his to his home he goes to best buy and calls me to ask me if so and so is a good laptop. He bought the laptop to work at home. He gets a call from the boss the next morning saying he was fired. the whole work at home thing was just a way to make him leave easily. |
