Default Deadwood, SD?

I am taking a road trip to Yellowstone and will be staying in Deadwood, SD for one night on the way out.

Websites and books mention casinos and card rooms.

Anyone been there? I am looking for hotel and casino suggestions. Also any other fun things to do or good restaurants.

Thanks for any help.

I was there this past New Year's. It's a fun little town. There are I think 4 places to play poker. You'll find a lot of spread limit - they seem to really like that there. When I was there, the nicest physical room was Silverado, but they seem to attract the douchebag WPT wannabes and never got a game as big as 10/20 while I was there. I liked Cadillac Jack's better. The room itself wasn't as nice, but the action was better and they spread bigger games. It's also the place where I ran into the most actual cowboys, so it's got that going for it. It does have the worst location, though, way at the end of town kind of by itself. On the main drag not too far from Silverado was a podunk little place called I think Gold Dust. They had a pretty good 10/20 game going, but it was not the best atmosphere and only something like 4 or 5 tables. I don't remember off the top of my head what the other place was called, but it wasn't anything spectacular. Overall, I'd recommend sticking to either Silverado or Cadillac Jack's if you've only got time for one place.

Do a search for a deadwood thread that I started some time last November-December. There was some good info from people who've been there more than the one weekend I spent there.

Saloon #10 is the other place

I was there a couple of months ago and pretty much agree with everything Patrick wrote. I was there with my wife and some other folks who were non-poker players so I didn't get a lot of poker time in. Actually the only poker I played was a Sunday afternoon Tournament at Saloon #10 which was fun. The only other observation was that finding a game was a bit dissapointing. I had time on a Sunday evening to play and the only thing really going was a tourneament at Silverado. Gold Dust had already closed their room down and I didn't feel like going all the way down to Cadillac Jacks to see if they had a game going.

I like Deadwood, it is a fun little town up in the Black Hills. If you like low Limit Blackjack it was all over the place although I was surprised to see the Three Card Poker tables busier than the Blackjack tables.

I suggest staying right downtown somewhere. That way most of the main are casinos are right there in walking distance, with the exception of Cadillac Jacks, but I believe there is a trolly that goes there.

Hotel suggestion is this Celebrity Hotel . VERY nice room and it was reasonably priced. If you are looking for just an inexpensive place to flop for a night there are other choices but I really liked the location of the hotel, right downtown, and price was good. No poker at this place but Saloon #10 and Gold Dust were just down the street and Silverado was just a little bit further and an easy walk.

Enjoy the trip to Yellowstone! It is a very beautiful place and is filled with some really great things to see. LOTS of wildlife and natural wonders like Old Faithful. Be careful of wildlife traffic jams. If you see all kinds of vehicles stopped there is very well likely something to look at. Could be elk, a bear, buffalo or ??

Also, Montana has a lot of live poker if you are heading through there or staying in Montana during your trip. Usually in small places and in the evening on a weekend night or two. Depends on the place.

Thanks for the info, we're staying at the Bullock Inn in the heart of downtown. They say they have a casino, but not sure what games.

I'll update when I get back.

If I remember the Bullock was just slot and video poker machines, no table games. Pretty small, but then again all of the places there are small compared to Vegas standards.
Here is a link to a map of deadwood:

Have fun!

I was in Deadwood this past August... great place.

As an FYI - Using the map that was linked to.

Cadillac Jack's is all the way up north where "E" is pointing to (American Hotel & Suites).

Silverado is on the corner of Main and Pine St.

Saloon #10 is just north of Lee St. on Main. Gold Dust is right next to it on the corner of Lee and Main.

The walk from Silverado to Cadillac Jack's takes a solid 20 minutes. From the Bullock Inn you'll be good walk-wise either way, however, I'd recommend the trolley to Cadillac Jack's.

If I remember, there was a steakhouse on the other side of Main from Bullock Inn (in the vicinity, was north of Lee St.) that was good eats.
