You watch the action at the table. Try to guess what they have during the hand and then see what they have at showdown. Then write that down. Determine what type of player he is, how he plays certain hands on certain streets, etc.
Getting reads doesn't mean it just comes to you out of then air. You get reads by picking up on patterns and tendencies of the player and then using that information to narrow down his possible holdings when you are up against him. |

Made this up did you? No offence, but its very simular to the player rating chart in "The Psychology of Poker" by Alan Schoonmaker.
