Re: World\'s 50 best restaruants listed. Which ones have you been to? *

Many people disagreed with Bruni on the Morimoto review. Morimoto and not even close if you like great Japanese. From what I hear Buddakan is more chinese/japanese/euro fusion, although yea the rooms are definitely a sight. [/ QUOTE ] I really need to get to Morimoto/Buddakan, considering I live like a 4 minute walk from them... There are just a bunch of others higher on my list. |

Re: World\'s 50 best restaruants listed. Which ones have you been to?
I'm clearly a food snob. I've got 8 and I think there are some glaring omissions from the list. The fact that it is heavily weighted towards Michelin starred Parisian and top NYC places padded my score. I've not done Nobu in London, but I've done New York and Las Vegas and can't imagine it is that much different, so maybe I should claim 9.
Chez Panise doesn't deserve to be #20 these days. I'd put several places in San Francisco above them. If we are rating them for what they have done for food over the last 30 years, sure, Alice is the queen. I don't think you can put them today in the same category as French Laundry, Fluer De Lys, Michael Mina or the Iron Chef guy's place at the Ritz-Carlton. How about the Inn at Little Washington or Le Bec Fin in Philly? |

Why are some US restaurants listed as "USA," and the NY restaurants listed as "New York"? Did NY secede from the union recently?

Also, the highest rated restaurant in the US isn't even the highest rated restaurant in its city (at least according to Zagat, which rates Gary Danko just ahead of French Laundry for San Francisco.

Masked Man:
If I can weigh in uninvited, Morimotos got a terribly unfair review from Bruni. I absolutely loved it. It does Nobu better than Nobu. The omikasi menu was absolutely amazing. Megu is not in the same league, in my view. I've not done Buddakan yet, but it is on my short list. I was also underwhelmed by Lever House - great people-watching, uninspired food. I haven't been to DB&D, but the word on chowhound is not that good. |
