NL10: AK OOP difficult flop

I put in a nice bet to make this pot shorthanded. Unfortunately I get 4 callers. Flop: A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] ($6.75, 5 players) Hero bets $2, UTG folds, UTG+1 calls, MP1 calls, CO folds. OK, I know the 2$ bet is weak, weak, weak, given the size of the pot. But I thought about this bet and i think it was good for a couple of reasons: 1. If no one has a queen, I am value betting, and someone might call this small bet with a weaker ace or a draw. 2. If someone has a queen, I can still get off this hand cheaply. I wouldn't be surprised if someone had a queen, because I got 4 callers to my preflop raise. Am I way off track? Should I have bet the pot, 1/2 pot, or checked? Turn: 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] ($12.75, 3 players) Hero checks, UTG+1 bets $2, MP1 calls, Hero calls. UTG+1 is a loose player with a VPIP of over 50. I decide to go to check-call mode. No reads on MP1 River: 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] ($18.75, 3 players) Hero checks, UTG+1 checks, MP1 checks. Results: Final pot: $18.75 |

Re: NL10: AK OOP difficult flop
WTF did you raise to $1.30 pre-flop?

Re: NL10: AK OOP difficult flop
You are pricing in a flush draw with that kind of flop bet. I would still bet ~2/3 pot OOP with TPTK here. I don't have a problem with keeping the pot small, but just because a queen beats you, it doesn't mean that someone neccessarily has that queen.
Again, on the turn you're allowing a flush draw a freecard simply by virtue of the board pairing. Finally, I would value bet the river as played. I think the way you play this is to scared of the queen when you have no real reason to think anybody has that. |

Re: NL10: AK OOP difficult flop
What's wrong with that? I would do 4x + 1x per limper. There're seven limpers here, so I'd be looking at 11x in any case. He wants to win the pot right there or at least thin the field significantly.
What would you be raising? |

Re: NL10: AK OOP difficult flop
Yes. my standard raise is 0.4-0.5 $, and with so many limpers I decided to put a large bet in there..Perhaps a bit too much, but still got plenty of callers...
I didn't value bet the river because UTG+1 bet the turn after calling my flop bet. But now I think even a 1/2 pot bet would've been better on the flop because I let the club draw draw with proper odds, as you said. |

Re: NL10: AK OOP difficult flop
And the showdown...
MP1 shows A7, a weaker ace. As expected. UTG+1 shows... 33. UTG+1 added to buddy list. |

Re: NL10: AK OOP difficult flop
Bet pot on the flop, then C/c the turn would be good if you get one or more callers. preflop seems ok, its only slightly more than the standard raise and with that many limpers a bit more could be a good idea to thin them out.
