Default Laptop

My son will need more use of our computer this year so I'm thinking of getting a laptop for me instead of another computer for him.

We have satellite broadband with a wireless setup at home.

This one is on offer at £549.99 at pcworld, atm.

I only need to play poker and read twoplustwo and hotmail, really. Is this good, please?

i would definitely give that a ram boost, otherwise it would be poker-ready (as long as you don't mind overlap)

Mike, It will not stick out to the side.

I'm pretty sure that laptop will have two memory slots. you will have to unscrew one or two screws to access the slots.

If you 256MB that comes with it takes up 2 slots (i.e. two 128MB RAM modules) you will have to throw away one of them. Hopefully the system will come with 1 256MB RAM module and leave one of the slots free.

I believe you should be able to get 128,256, or 512 MB modules.

I missed this the first time around, now the link just goes to the front page of the store.

Either buy the thing preconfigured with 512MB or ensure they use a 256MB module in it (as opposed to two 128's). If they refuse to do that, buy somewhere else.

Get 802.11G It's the current form of wireless networking and is a great step forward over B. Not only is it faster but it offers better security options. Even if you're using B in the house now you'll probably want to upgrade during the life of this machine.

If it's a desktop replacement, go ahead and get a mongo screen. If it's designed to go to the coffee shop with you, learn to love overlap

If you can afford the 50$ i would go for the Toshiba L20-198 Package, which you can find at the same store...

it got 512mb ram and 128mb ram for the graphics
