At what point can I fold my way in?

Playing a satellite to the Stars $1M. Currently 28 left and top 9 get seats. I am in 2nd with T34k. Avg stack is T14k.

Not yet, the average will be 42k when the seats are awarded.

Play small pot unless you get a huge hand.

folding in is questionable, but only play a pot if you have a huge edge.

If you hit 44k +/- you can essentially shut down

just checked your tourny out and you only have about a 4k lead over the 9th place player with 19 still left. It's not even close right now (to being able to fold in). Keep on grinding.

Until you get close to 2x what the average stack will be at the end, no, you can't fold in. I went from 1st to 22nd (bubble boy) in a satellite by starting "fold to the money" too early (30 players left, 20 get it, 1 gets cash) and not having enough chips left to have fold equity by the time it was clear I wasn't going to make it.

The problem is the massive stalling ends up making the blinds go up every orbit until you hit hand for hand. You'll get destroyed by the blinds.
