Default JJ Bluff Into Dry Side Pot

Live 1/2 NL Max Buy-In 200

Effective Stacks:

UTG - 1200
Button(Hero) - 325
BB - 60

No real reads to speak of other than UTG has been fairly quiet given his big stack and hasn't done anything out of line. BB is your typical 1/2 Friday Night Casino Fish.

Preflop:

UTG raises to 11. 2 callers in MP. Hero raises to 40 on the button with J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (I have my reasons for this and would rather not discuss this part of the hand). BB goes all in for 60. UTG quickly calls, Hero calls. (No isolation raises because you can't short re-raise)

At this point, I'm relatively certain I'm behind UTG. At worst I believe he has AK, but more likely QQ or KK. BB range is very wide. Ax , or 22-1010 most likely. He had recently said at the table, "I'm pushing my next pocket pair and then going home" so I put him on a low pocket pair.

FLOP:

2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

UTG very subtly looks disgustingly at the flop and checks. I now feel quite confidently he has KK or QQ and decide to bet into the dry side pot, representing AK. I know most of the time bluffing a dry side pot is useless and somewhat foolish. However, if my read was correct I was quite confident I could push a tight UTG out of the hand and allow me to take the $180 already in the pot, facing what looked like a small pocket pair from BB. If I got a call on the flop I was ready to give up on the hand.

Like it, Love it, Hate it? What other lines would you take? Results to follow

Default RESULTS

UTG angrily mucks K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] face up.

Turn: K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

River: J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

BB shows A3 off suit. Hero wins pot with a set of J's.

For the record, I was only moderately embarassed.

Default Re: JJ Bluff Into Dry Side Pot

One of the rare dry side pot bluffs that make sense to me--you knew he had KK/QQ and was planning on folding it to your bet.

There's just one problem here. BB usually has an ace. You're hoping for that percentage he's got an underpair. Nice river.

(and nice play--given that kind of read I make the same play and everyone else here does as well, a bit scary on people thinking at 200NL... lol)
