No specific order here
1) Collapse of the Soviet Union (I include end of the cold war/fall of the Berlin wall in this)
2) September 11
3) The creation (if you want to be a nit, widespread adoption) of the internet/personal computers
4) Modernization of China/India
5) Creation of the EU

[/ QUOTE ]

I think that this list is very good.

Its intersting for me that a lot of what you guys are classing as worldwide events had little or no impact on me.

Eg Oklahoma Bombing, Reagans change in policies and a few others I dont think had that much of a worldwide impact.

I think there is a overvaluation of the EU thing as well we are no where near being a United States of Europe, not sure if the impact worldwide is that strong.

Quite a few of mine have already been mentioned but I would add the Ethiopian famine and the response of the world via Bob Geldolf and live Aid. I suspect though that this again is a UK based thing as the BBC really broke that story and we had the shocking images on every news report for weeks.

Black Wednesday but I think that more affected Europe, and probably wasnt as bad to me personally as the recession of the late 80's which saw the yuppie culture of britain come crashing down.

I think the Internet and 24 hour worldwide news is having a huge affect on the world generally now and maybe moreso in the future.

A little younger perspective, born 1987. Obviously I don't remember some of these events, but I see them as having the most impact of all events during my lifetime.

1) Fall of the Berlin Wall (collapse of Communism in general)
2) 9/11
3) Propogation of the Internet
4) Rise of rap culture
5) Seemingly yearly genocides somewhere in the world

I guess these really weren't in order, and I'm too lazy to go back and reorder them. In order: 3,1,2,4,5. If anyone's interested in why just ask. And daveymck, maybe I just don't get your older humor, but you're kidding about never having heard of Rowe v Wade, right?

Oh, and I think that in 15 or 20 years the modernization of China, which is going on currently, will quite possibly be #1 on my list.
