$60 multi at Paradise
From memory, didn't get the hand history.
Blinds are at 15/30 and I've got about 1,800 in chips. I'm UTG with 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] and limp. MP+1 raises for 200, and I'm immediately suspicious of such a large raise. If you've got a real monster, why drive everyone out? I could understand a reraise of that size, but it's my experience that a raise like this is AK or AQ. Maybe TT. Folded to me, and I call. Flop comes 6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] What's your play? I've got Villian covered by about 400 chips or so. I know very little about him, given how early we are in the tournament, but he's done nothing to call any amount of attention toward himself. |

Re: $60 multi at Paradise
Fold preflop. Suspicious or not, what is the point of contesting this. Let him steal the 75 chip pot. Maybe look to trap him later.
On the flop, I would play for a checkraise allin. The following shows how you stand versus overcards or an overpair. It is somewhat worse if villain has a club. http://twodimes.net/h/?z=1647588 pokenum -h 8d 8c - as ks -- 6c 7h 9c Holdem Hi: 990 enumerated boards containing 9c 6c 7h cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV 8c 8d 798 80.61 176 17.78 16 1.62 0.814 As Ks 176 17.78 798 80.61 16 1.62 0.186 http://twodimes.net/h/?z=1647589 pokenum -h 8d 8c - as ah -- 6c 7h 9c Holdem Hi: 990 enumerated boards containing 9c 6c 7h cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV 8c 8d 402 40.61 572 57.78 16 1.62 0.414 As Ah 572 57.78 402 40.61 16 1.62 0.586 |

Re: $60 multi at Paradise
I agree with betgo on this one. Fold preflop after that large raise. The flop is a pretty good one for you and I like the checkraise here. If he makes a C-Bet you can push here and hope to take it down. If he calls with overs your a favorite and if he has an overpair you have plenty of outs.

RESULT
I was afraid this would be the response I would get, because in hindsight, I might've taken it down with a flop C/R.
Without the additional outs, I would've check-folded this hand. But I was pretty sure of my read, so I pushed. Villian thinks long and hard and calls ... with AKo. Of course, he turns his K, but it's a club, giving me 17 outs to improve on the river (he's not holding a club). And of course, a brick falls putting me close to the felt. I make a nice recovery and get back to 2,100 before another critical hand sends me to the rail. I'll post that one later. I'd like to think had he made a modest CB, I could've moved him off the pot with a C/R. But if he's putting me on top pair or a draw, he's probably going to call me anyway if he's willing to call as it actually happened. |

Why are you trying to get him to fold AK?

Why are you trying to get him to fold AK? [/ QUOTE ] Good question. I suppose that since I'm a 3-1 favorite here, I should encourage him to stay in the hand. Perhaps I'm not confident enough in my own play to make the right decision on the turn/river should paint fall, and I'd like to settle the whole thing right then and there. |
