So did you call or what?

Surely it is negative ev to call this - because 98% of the time you split the pot 1% of the time you win and 1% of the time you lose.

I think overall it is right to call because as Doyle (or someone good) said "you can't worry about quads". However, the worry is that this is UTG making the bet, which is the spot you see people slow playing their hands the most.

Christ I'd call but I don't think it as easier question as you think.

On the flop I think you have to put in a bet - anyone who has an ace is betting it given the flush draw (you'd think) so I think this would make the river decision that much easier - so you probably wouldn't even see the river if UTG has trips, then quads or a big ace.

I agree with playhata that is definitely buddy list material if he did have the Jacks.

Wow, shockingly bad play from both UTG and Hero.

What were you thinking on the turn? Last to act, you have to put some kind of bet in here.
On the river, though you split well over 90% of the time, I'm guessing you drag the whole pot more often than you lose to JJ.

Where is the 1% of the time you lose coming from? NOTHING about the play suggests JJ other than the late all in. NO PFR, no bet with a flopped set, and no bet with a turned boat to be followed by a river push??? Sounds like a good way to get the blinds with quads.

Given that there are 2 J's on the board, the likeihood villain has JJ in his hand (excluding all info gained from the play) is <0.05%**. I don't think the play suggests anything much more likely than this.

This is a VERY small mistake. You have $1 in this pot. I've seen enough donks show the naked J that I probably call. But have to admit I've been tagged a couple times by the quads and the straight flush when getting crazy with my boat.

JJ raising preflop. blah blah blah. That doesn't rule out quads. Fish don't play well. We pretty much have to ignore quads always without an insane read. Action looks like naked J afraid of AA till the river. But no A bet. WTF? UTG being dumb enough to push the bottom boat in a $7 pot isn't something I bet on. But that tricky donk, slowplaying A9 I split with.

With A5 you need to bet this flop. Fold equity is your friend. Bet it hard enough so you can tell if your kicker is good. You have a one pair hand with a crap kicker in a huge multiway pot. Thin the field, and steal the dead money. If you make it to the river J's should be long gone, you should have a PSB or less to call with the nut boat and kickers don't play. You are golden with an easy decision.

Mike
