check raise gone awry.
5 handed live 20-40, most of the player are attempting to adjust to being shorthanded by being looser and such, some of these adjustments correspond to correct play and some of them don't.
I'm in the BB with Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. UTG and CO limp, Button Raises, SB cold calls. I call in the BB. The flop comes: J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] I plan to checkraise the button to protect my hand, I'm pretty sure he'll bet. However, the CO leads out, the button raises, and the SB cold calls 2. urk! What is your plan on this fairly drawless board? |

Re: check raise gone awry.
I would 3 bet 2 knock the CO out, and if not this will certainly give us a better idea where we are in the hand.... if someone caps and then bets the turn we know we're in some trouble

Re: check raise gone awry.
I do anything but fold. You have 2 backdoor draws plus top pair good kicker. I like to find out where Im at on the cheap street. 3 bet and see what happens. If it gets capped, pray that the 9 or T of spades falls on the turn

Re: check raise gone awry.
Any reads on the players? Even a slight read would change my advice dramatically.
Without reads, I like your hand and I 3-bet here. You're ahead of CO, 50/50 with button, and only potentially losing to SB who either flopped a)a set, b)OESD, or c)sucks royally. Re-raise and re-evaluate. If CO caps, he's likely got the goods. Same for button (unless they're the fishy "cap it and save time"-type). |

Re: check raise gone awry.
SB's cold-call concerns me the most, actually.
In general, though, since they're adjusting somewhat for shorthanded play, I like a 3-bet, because you are probably best and have some ways to improve in case you aren't. |
